One of my favorite coworkers up and had a baby girl a few months ago. Before she went on maternity leave, I was busy with knitting Josephine for Shannon’s wedding. So, I had planned to have a baby sweater done before she returned to work. She, sillily enough, returned on the date she had told [...]

I keep thinking about when Lyss and I were having dinner and Etienne was sitting in a chair on the other side. Etienne was stabbing a knitting needle repeatedly into a skein of yarn.
Says we, “Etienne, what are you doing?”
quoth Etienne, “Knitting.”
I’m getting that boy a pair of 35s and some polar weight yarn.

I realized that I hadn’t gotten Renu a birthday present, so I made for her one of Knitty’s Pocket Creatures and stuffed it with lavender that we got last year at the Sequim Lavender Festival.
For Shannon and Walker’s wedding present, butter_mint, alarelkinn and I made separate presents for the bride and groom. For Walker, [...]

Does my nephew LOOK like he’s only almost 3? (Those are the mittens I made him, btw.)
After spending 2 days camped out at my parents’, writing 11 papers (most of them short), I borrowed Nomi’s computer from Saturday afternoon ’til this evening to write my last 3 papers. Of course, my laptop returned from Dell [...]

I did end up making the broadstreet mittens for my dad for Christmas. I even figured out how to reverse the pattern for myself. I also discovered that not doing a knit row before I ran the yarn through to finish the thumb ended up with a lot nicer looking thumb.
I used KnitPicks Sock Landscapes [...]

James Marsters is in Smallville. He has dark hair and an American accent. It’s very very wrong. (I think he’s gotten even skinnier, and he’s starting to look his age, too.)
I came home and the next door neighbor’s house was gone. I had heard a rumor that it was going to get knocked down to [...]

y’know. If I wait to do the DNA scarf until I practice some intarsia, I could do an actual gene sequence with 4 colors (to represent A,T,C,G) and some other solid color for the background.
Hrmm, I like to make my life complicated sometimes
The colors wouldn’t have to be rainbowy or anything; they could [...]

Apparently, I’m going to Chicago this weekend. Bought my ticket tonight and am going tomorrow afternoon.
So, I have this pattern, it’s lacey and each rep of the lacey is 11 stitches. The pattern calls for cast on 90 stitches–so 2 stiches are left over when I do a round of the lacey. If I continue [...]

Tonight, I have to do my outline for the weekly papers my students have to give
me. But instead, I’m being addicted to knitting. In the last
week I’ve received http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8185220928&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
and one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3885&item=7152190707&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
as well as some bamboo circular needles.
Because of the lot in the first item,
15″ single pointed sizes
10.5, metal
10, wood
10, metal bent
3, metal
12″ single pointed [...]

Thanks to Stitch n Bitch, I have finally learned how to purl. This was my 4th or 5th attempt to learn how, including run-ins with several “Knitting Made Easy” type books. I’m making a scarf with alternating blocks of stockinette and 2×2 ribbing. I have a use or the Frida Kahlo bag Mama got me [...]
